1. Statement of Intent
At Discover Artists: Professional Performance Training, we are committed to creating a safe, positive, and supportive
environment where all children and young people can thrive.
Bullying of any kind is unacceptable within our organisation. If bullying does occur, all children and young people
should feel able to report it and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly, fairly, and effectively.
This policy applies to students, staff, freelancers, volunteers, and anyone connected to our activities.
2. What is Bullying?
Bullying is behaviour by an individual or group that is:
• Repeated, or has the potential to be repeated.
• Intended to hurt another person physically, emotionally, or psychologically.
• Involves a misuse of power, whether real or perceived.
Bullying can include:
• Physical: hitting, pushing, taking or damaging belongings.
• Verbal: name-calling, teasing, threats, offensive comments.
• Social/Relational: leaving someone out, spreading rumours, isolating.
• Cyberbullying: sending abusive messages, sharing harmful images or videos, online exclusion or harassment.
3. Prevention
We aim to prevent bullying by:
• Promoting respect, kindness, and teamwork in all sessions.
• Making our expectations of behaviour clear to students and parents from the outset.
• Encouraging open discussion around respect, inclusion, and wellbeing.
• Training staff and freelancers to recognise and respond to signs of bullying.
• Creating safe ways for children to speak out if they feel worried.
4. Procedures for Dealing with Bullying
If bullying is suspected or reported:
1. Listen and Take It Seriously
◦ All concerns will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.
◦ Staff will listen carefully and supportively to the child or young person raising the concern.
2. Investigation
◦ The directors or designated safeguarding lead will investigate, speaking to those involved.
◦ Both the victim and alleged bully will be treated fairly and with respect.
3. Action
◦ If bullying is confirmed, appropriate action will be taken, which may include:
▪ Mediation between students.
▪ Behavioural contracts or agreements.
▪ Contact with parents/carers.
▪ Temporary or permanent exclusion from activities in serious cases.
4. Support
◦ Support will be provided to the child experiencing bullying.
◦ The child displaying bullying behaviour will also be supported to understand and change their
behaviour.
5. Responsibilities
• Directors are responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring all staff and freelancers follow it.
• Staff and freelancers must report and record all concerns about bullying.
• Students and parents/carers are encouraged to share concerns promptly.
6. Monitoring & Review
• All incidents of bullying will be recorded and monitored.
• This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as required.
